Morocco Kayaking - Weekend

Ahansel River - Kayaking Weekend

Whitewater in Morocco

For people with a confident roll who want to head out to Morocco for a long weekend of paddling, we have the perfect escape from winter weather. The Ahansel River cascades out of the Atlas Mountains from it's headwaters near Zaouia Ahansal passing by the impressive Cathedral Rock before reaching the village of Tiloguite where we'll start our kayaking adventure. You'll be driven to the start of the trip via the amazing Cascade D'Ouzoud but dont think about kayaking this, we are just here for lunch. At our Berber Camp beside the river, you'll have the chance to outfit your boat from our modern fleet of Dagger river runners. Once on the river the next day you'll literally paddle continuous Grade 2-4 rapids for the whole day until we reach our second camp. With all boat hire included, just jump on a budget flight and come on out and paddle this alpine gem!

Please note: the season runs from March to mid-May each year only. 2019 bookings are now closed.

We'll collect you from your Riad in Marrakech in our minibus and drive you across the plains north of Marrakech and into the Atlas foothills. Here we turn off and up the valley towards Cascade D'Ouzoud where we'll spend the next hour or so checking out our lines... and having lunch! Paddlers tend to be a lot braver without boats! After lunch, we drive past the gorgeous Bin El Ouidane with its deep blue colour framed with stunning red hills. As we climb over the hills into the Ahansel Valley, we near the gorgeous village of Tiloguite where we'll stop for some tea and then walk down to our camp beside the river. Here you can just relax, grab a drink from the cash bar and enjoy some sundowners beside the river. The guides have prepared a stunning meal tonight for you. Fall asleep on your comfortable camping mattress in our Berber Tent, the sound of the river lulling you to sleep...

Cup O Tea? Coffee? Your choice as the guides brink you hot drinks and you can look out onto the river from the tent. We pack up our gear into drybags and after a filling breakfast, load the drybags onto the raft. Yiu'll outfit your kayaks, have a safety talk and off we go. The river is a continuous Grade 2-4 river today mostly "read and run" but there are opportunities to scout the more difficult rapids such as Wee Stinky, The Mill and Rock The Casbah. We'll stop for lunch on the side of the river, taking in the amazing views of the area. You'll get salads and cold meats as well as biscuits and fruit for lunch before we head down to our second night Gorge Camp. Here there is a great hike, close to the camp, where if you you need to burn off some more energy, is the perfect activity. Have a drink from the bar and relax in the hammock or around the fire chatting with fellow paddlers

Here we have arranged for a boat to meet us and take us across to the otherside of the lake (about 8km) Here our minibus waits, but you'll also get the chance to relax in the sauna or hot tub and take a shower before lunch.
